Mali Professor Sentenced for Criticising Military Junta

  Étienne Fakaba Sissoko  Étienne Fakaba Sissoko has been sentenced to two years in jail, with one year suspended, and fined 3 million CFA francs ($4,900) for defamation and  fake news broadcasting. He was charged as a result of his book, "Propaganda, Agitation, and Harassment." This book is seems to criticizes the military junta that seized power in 2020. Human rights groups see Sissoko's case as part of a broader restrain on objection. His lawyer plans to appeal.
